Castleford Tigers confirm the resignation of the Super League striker

Castleford Tigers have confirmed the signing of Sam Eseh from Wigan Warriors on a two-week loan for the second time this season.

The 20-year-old joined Wigan from Wakefield Trinity earlier this season and has made 15 Super League appearances.

In 2022, he spent time on loan at Barrow Raiders and Featherstone Rovers, where he won the RFL Championship Young Player of the Season award.

He also won Wakefield’s young player of the season in their last campaign.

The 6 foot 4 forward currently has a two-year contract with Wigan Warriors.

He originally joined Castleford on a short-term loan just two weeks ago but has not played for the team as a precaution after his hamstring, two months after a pre-season injury, was tight.

Last week he played in a reserve game against Hull KR and must feel ready to play at Super League standard now.

On the move, Wigan’s interim manager John Duffy said: “It’s great that Sam will get the opportunity to play some minutes in Super League.

“His opportunity with Castleford has been delayed slightly as a precaution, but we look forward to seeing him work with Craig and his staff at Wheldon Road.”

Castleford’s injury problems have been well documented this season and they have spent most of the campaign with the injury list in double figures.

Tigers director of rugby Danny Wilson said: We needed to add some presence to our pack, especially with all the injuries and suspensions.

“Sam fits in really well and comes from a good club who will certainly add quality to our squad.

“When I knew it was available, I acted quickly. I would like to thank Wigan for their assistance.”

Wigan head coach Matt Peet thinks highly of Eseh and said yesterday: “We know what his strengths are, we see him every day in training and he applies himself really well.”

“I’m confident he’ll be really successful here in the long term.

“He’s a young player and it’s about choosing the right opportunity for him.”

Sam Eseh will be immediately available for the Tigers’ upcoming games and the move could be extended beyond the first two weeks.

He has been named in the squad as Castleford Tigers take on Wigan’s rivals St Helens at Wheldon Road on Friday 10th May at 8pm.
