Leeds Rhinos will only beat one of Castleford, Hull FC and London, says Sky pundit

Sky Sports pundit Kyle Amor has claimed Leeds Rhinos are so out of shape that they will flounder in their next four games and fail to win all of their last three Super League finals.

With the pressure and outside noise mounting Leeds Rhinos head coach Rohan Smith is in desperate need of a nice run of games which he has thankfully got with Castleford, Hull FC and London, all in the next four.

The remaining game in that set of four is Leigh Leopards, meaning Leeds Rhinos effectively play the bottom four for the next four games, a perfect way to remedy their poor form?

Kyle Amor thinks not, suggesting that Smith’s team is so out of shape that they might only manage to win one of the four rather than the desired or expected three of four. Speaking on Sky Sports, the former St Helens forward identified the games as a welcome pressure relief for Smith, before suggesting he could be a banana skin instead.

Amor noted: “They’ve got Castleford, Hull FC, Leigh and London and you’d imagine Rohan Smith will really be hoping his troops take the pressure off him.

“They have to go three out of four in that group, but they have no right now to go three out of four.

“They’ve been so far that it wouldn’t surprise you if they only came out with one.”

Leeds Rhinos have been a yo-yo team over the past two seasons, with that yo-yo placed right on the brink of the playoffs. One week they look like world beaters and look certain to be in the top six, while the next they slide aimlessly to yet another defeat.

Of late, the Rhinos have certainly been more consistent with the latter of those two metrics. The two defeats to the Catalans Dragons and St Helens raised the alarm massively, with many clamoring for Rohan Smith to be sacked after Friday’s defeat.

Underwhelming wins against Hull FC and London Broncos last month couldn’t even stop those ‘Rohan out’ chants and they were in full flow from the support at The Totally Wicked Stadium on Friday.

Asked if Leeeds Rhinos are a club ‘in reverse’, Kyle Amor pulled no punches: ‘I think they are. Obviously Rohan Smith took over and took them to a grand final and I think it’s gone south since then.

“They spent a lot of money recruiting that column. They are quality attacking players but they just haven’t put it together.”

Even stalwart Jamie Jones-Buchanan accepted that the defeat to St Helens marked a worrying trend which has seen the team far too inconsistent, an ominous sign ahead of this crucial round that pits them against the bottom three.

JJB argued, “I think they lost some altitude last night. I think there were times when they seemed to get off the ground and build something.

“I think they are quite abnormal. I don’t always understand what it is, but the loss to St Helens was a disappointment.”
