Leicester City are targeting teenage talent in a position where they are desperate for an excuse

Leicester City are keen on Birmingham City teenage talent Jordan James but will face competition from the Premier League for his signature this summer.

City are short on attacking midfielders and it will be a priority position for them to strengthen in the transfer window. Nineteen-year-old James has bagged an impressive eight goals in 42 league outings for the relegated Blues this season, with two of those finishes coming against City at St Andrew’s in December.

Following Birmingham’s relegation to League One, James is expected to be on the move this summer. And after impressing at such a young age, there is no shortage of suitors for him.

Journalist Alan Nixon said City are interested but West Ham are currently leading the race, with new Hammers manager Julen Lopetegui first showing interest at Wolves. Europa League winners Atalanta are also long-term fans of the Wales international, having made bids for him in the January window.

City are desperate for new faces in midfield this summer. With Dennis Praet leaving on a free transfer and Yunus Akgun not set to return to the club after his season-long loan, that leaves only Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Wilfred Ndidi.

However, Dewsbury-Hall is still at risk of being sold this summer to help the club meet profit and sustainability regulations. Meanwhile, Ndidi is out of contract and even if he signs a new contract, manager Enzo Maresca has hinted that he could be used in a defensive role next season.
