Sheffield street fight: Police make 25 arrests after disturbance in Woodbourn Road

Police have arrested 25 people on suspicion of violent disorderly offenses after a large-scale brawl in Sheffield.

It happened at around 2.25pm ​​BST on Saturday on Woodbourn Road, South Yorkshire Police said.

In total, 22 people were transported to the hospital with injuries, 10 of whom are seriously injured.

A number of weapons believed to have been used during the disturbance were recovered from the scene.

Video on social media appears to show a group of people punching two victims, who were lying injured on Woodbourn Road.

Emergency services were called following reports of fighting in the street.

On Saturday, South Yorkshire Police said two of the injured were in a critical condition in hospital.

A police cordon was set up covering the road between Worthing Road and Parkway Avenue, with items recovered from the adjacent tram line by crime scene investigators.

A long object, believed to be a piece of wood, was placed in an evidence tube next to the tram tracks, BBC footage showed.

Officers worked overnight to inspect the scene and trawl CCTV, Surf said. Ch Simon Wanless.

“You will see an increased police presence in the area today and over the next few days. If anyone has any concerns or questions, please stop and speak to the officers, they are there to assist you,” he added.

Police arrested 25 people suspected of “multiple offenses of violent disorder” and were questioned by officers.

Witnesses to the disturbance or anyone with information or video footage that could assist the police investigation are asked to get in touch.
