Great Manchester Run 2024 LIVE 10k and half marathon results, photos and updates

The Great Manchester Run is back for another year, with tens of thousands of people set to take part. Elite athletes, club runners and fun runners will be taking to the streets for the 10km and half marathon races today Sunday (May 26).

This year marks the 21st anniversary of the event, which features Europe’s largest 10km race. Start times are staggered throughout the day. More than 30,000 runners are registered to take part, while 100,000 spectators are expected to attend.




The first participants will start at 8.15 am and the last ones immediately after 1 pm.

Full wave details are below:

  • 8:15 – Elite Wheelchair (10k)
  • 8.20 am – Orange Wave (Half Marathon)
  • 8.39 am – Green Wave (Half Marathon)
  • 11.25 – Elite Women (10k)
  • 11.40 – Elite Men (10k)
  • 11:40 – A fast paced orange wave (10k)
  • 11.59 – Red Wave (10k)
  • 12:02 – Green wave (10k)
  • 12.45 – purple wave (10k)
  • 13:03 – Pink wave (10k)

Last year, the popular running event celebrated its 20th anniversary with a series of entertainment zones. Olympic legend Sir Mo Farah attended. The four-time gold medalist completed the race for the final time after confirming he will retire from elite competition after the AJ Bell Great North event in September 2023.

Several roads in the city will be affected and roads and diversions will be closed. The 10km and half marathon race has two different routes.


As in previous years, the 10km route starts on Portland Street just off the junction with Oxford Road and continues down the A56 towards Old Trafford – taking in Manchester United’s Old Trafford ground and other sites opposite Salford Quays before heading to Deansgate and finish line.

The half marathon starts and continues along the same route as the 10km, but returns to the Mancunian Way, passing Manchester Piccadilly and continuing to the Etihad Stadium before heading back up Ashton Old Road and joining the 10km route back down past Old Trafford. and back to Deansgate.

One of the city’s most popular events returns this morning.

The first participants in the Great Manchester Run 2024 have started.

More than 30,000 people are expected to take part, with thousands lining the city’s streets to frolic.

Paul Foster, chief executive of The Great Run Company, previously said:

“There’s an electric atmosphere from start to finish, with live bands, charity milestones and tens of thousands of supporters cheering along.

“Club voters, fun runners and fundraisers share the same streets as the world’s elite athletes and will be mixed with celebrities such as Gemma Atkinson, Coronation Street and Emmerdale stars running this year.”
