Dozens of people have been hospitalized or arrested following a major brawl in the middle of a street.

The huge fight took place at around 2pm on Saturday on Woodbourn Road in Sheffield.

Images shared on social media showed people being attacked as they lay on the ground as the group’s fight spilled off the pavement and into the road.

Several people wearing high visibility jackets were seen in the large group.

A number of parked cars were also damaged during the fight.

At least one person was apparently using some kind of weapon to hit someone who was lying on the ground, as another person was seen crawling out of the road and onto the sidewalk.

Police have now arrested 25 people on suspicion of violent crimes and 22 people have been taken to hospital, 10 of them with serious injuries.

South Yorkshire Police Chief Superintendent Simon Wanless said: “Officers worked through the night at the scene on Woodbourn Road and carried out extensive enquiries, including CCTV trawls.

“I would strongly encourage anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

“If you were in the area around the time of the incident and have CCTV, video or dashcam footage please get in touch.

“You will see an increased police presence in the area today and over the next few days.”

The force confirmed on Sunday that all 22 people injured were still in hospital but their injuries were “not believed to be life-threatening”.

The road was closed by police shortly after the altercation and the cordon is still in place.
