Police have cordoned off the Coventry building after “suspicious substance” was found.

Police have locked down a building in Coventry following reports that a “suspicious substance” had been found. Officers were called to the University of Warwick on Friday (May 24).

Police erected a large cordon at the University of Warwick at around 10.30am. Experts were called to the following reports that a substance had been discovered in the Science Park.

It was part of a sample that was sent for analysis, West Midlands Police said. Tests were carried out and the lab where it was found was later declared ‘safe’.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “We were called shortly before 10.30am on Friday (May 24) following a report that a suspicious substance had been detected at a laboratory in Coventry.

“It was part of a sample that had been sent for analysis. A cordon was installed during the tests and was later lifted as the lab was declared safe.”
