Sick thug video shows two teenage girls beaten on Birmingham street

Two teenage girls are beaten and humiliated in a bullying video filmed in Birmingham that has been widely shared on social media.

The video, captured on a mobile phone, shows the two 14-year-olds being assaulted by thugs in Hilary Grove in the Northfield area of the city on Saturday night.

Police said the grainy footage, which was shared on Facebook, has been viewed more than six million times. They plan to arrest two women suspected of being behind the abuse.

In the unprovoked attack, a gang forces the two girls to their knees to apologize for ‘looking dirty’, before one is pushed to the ground and assaulted, while their bags are thrown into the middle of a busy road.

Police say the public’s response to the video has been overwhelming, with many people contacting them to identify the attackers.

Police have already spoken to two of the groups involved, including the young man who filmed the incident, and plan to arrest two female criminals suspected of carrying out the attack.

“The response from members of the public, clearly disgusted by what they saw online, has been overwhelming and we’ve had lots of people get in touch to provide the names of those responsible,” said Inspector John Askew of Birmingham South Police.

“We have identified the two main suspects and there are plans for one of the girls, a 16-year-old, to go to a police station for questioning later today. We understand that the other prime suspect is out of the country on vacation, but we will speak to her upon her return.

“I would like to reassure everyone that it is being treated very seriously and that the investigation is progressing. Under no circumstances should anyone take matters into their own hands as this could leave them open to prosecution.”

DS Dean Gordon, from Birmingham Police, said: “The violence shown against these two girls is completely unacceptable. We will not tolerate this type of aggression, and those involved will be brought to justice.”
