New adorable global ad in SA

Shot in South Africa, Lay’s new ad beautifully showcases the simple joy found in dogs, long journeys and open windows through ‘Dog. Car. Window.” campaign.

Johannesburg, South Africa (27 May 2024) – Lay’s is here to remind us that joy can be delightfully simple. Their latest commercial, shot in the picturesque landscapes of South Africa, beautifully illustrates that sometimes the best moments in life are the simplest.

The concept behind the Lay’s/Smith’s/Walker’s ad is simple: find ingredients that make you smile. And in this particular case, it’s all about the pure, uncomplicated joy found in dogs, long drives and open windows.

According to Campaign Brief, this new platform aims to demonstrate through a series of three-word “recipes” for joy that happiness doesn’t have to be complicated. Each recipe is unique and personal, showing that joy can be found in the most ordinary moments. The first ad in this series, brought to life across digital, BVOD, social media and OOH channels, features the heartwarming combination of “Dog. Car. Window.”

This infectiously cheerful and simple spot, created by Goodby Silverstein & Partners and directed by award-winning Nick Ball, immerses viewers in a deeply relatable moment of uncomplicated happiness that often hides in plain sight.

The ad quickly became a hit on social media in South Africa, leading to speculation about its filming location. Although the production team seemed to try to keep this information “under wraps”, the truth came out thanks to Nick Ball’s Instagram, which was full of location tags in South Africa.

This means that the adorable chicks featured in the ad are all South African superstars!

Vandita Pandey, Chief Marketing Officer ANZ Snacks & Beverages at PepsiCo, shared her thoughts on the campaign: “Smith’s is not just a snack for the Aussie; it’s a reminder that joy doesn’t require extravagance and is often just a simple recipe. Having been a part of many of those simple recipes and moments of joy for generations, Smith’s is excited to continue to inspire people to find their simple joys for decades to come.”

So take a moment to enjoy this super good ad and let it inspire you to find your own simple recipes for happiness.
