Chelsea manager ‘mystery’ casting revealed as Enzo Maresca splits Todd Boehly from two executives

Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca has reportedly reached a two-man shortlist to take over at Chelsea – but is awaiting the outcome of an infighting in west London.

Ever since the Blues sacked Mauricio Pochettino, Leicester have inadvertently found themselves embroiled in the club’s hunt for a new custodian of the Stamford Bridge dugout. Maresca’s name was on a list of potential replacements and continues to be so close to day seven.

It has been claimed that the Championship winning coach is quite interested in making the switch from the Midlands, which has been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. At the weekend, he faced Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna, Brentford’s Thomas Frank and an unnamed ‘mystery’ man.

However, in a new week, a report by The Independent revealed a new update in the process – including the unveiling of a fourth candidate.

They write that the Foxes boss was handpicked by Chelsea sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley – who led the search – as their ideal man for the job, while owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital are fully invested in the idea the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi. Maresca’s compatriot recently parted company with Brighton and has now been named as the fourth figure on the list.

Different factions will have to make their case, which in Maresca’s view comes down to his experience and style of football, while De Zerbi boasts a personality that is said to have resonated with Chelsea chiefs.
