“I’m 52 but trolls say I look 82 and skinny”

A 52-year-old mum who was scrutinized for looking 82 and “washed out” says women don’t like to see others doing well. Nerys Middleton was shocked by comments when she put up a TikTok video asking “how old do I look?”.

She said comments ranged from people saying she looked 30 to 82 years old. Nerys says “mean” trolls told her she was “full of Botox” and to “show us your neck”.

The mother is confident in herself, but has been saddened by online abuse – especially from other women. Nerys, who works in healthcare, from Chester, Cheshire, said: “The comments have been raging from my early 30s to 82. They said I was full of Botox and fillers – which I’m not.

“Some people say your face doesn’t move. They said I’m 72 and I’ve lost weight. Women don’t support other women anymore.”

Nerys was able to brush off the nasty comments, but says she realized she sometimes used too many filters on Instagram. She said: “People are afraid to post pictures without a filter. Everyone filters their photos. I understand why people use filters. It’s a wake-up call.”

Nerys has always lived a healthy lifestyle and eats an organic vegetarian diet, loves fashion and skincare and keeps active. She said: “I take care of myself. They are a very sophisticated chest of drawers. I don’t think other women like to see other women doing well.

“A lot of 50-year-olds don’t have the confidence to do anything. When you reach 50 people expect you to be invisible. Women should support women. If women stop supporting, then we have no one.”
