Player set to return to Leeds United as loanee club ‘highly unlikely’ to meet 49ers’ asking price

One of Victor Orta’s army is now set to return to Leeds United, with his loan club “highly unlikely” to meet the asking price.

Brenden Aaronson has been confirmed to return to Elland Road by Union Berlin, while Robin Koch and Luis Sinisterra have made permanent moves to Eintracht Frankfurt and Bournemouth.

But the future remains an unknown for Marc Roca, Rasmus Kristensen, Diego Llorente, Jack Harrison and Wober. Although it looks like the latter will be returning to Elland Road, according to new reports.

It has already been claimed that Roca will return to Yorkshire, while Kristensen has not done enough to earn Roma a permanent move. Llorente’s future hangs in the balance as Roma weigh up a deal.

Now, a report from Wober’s home country states that it is “extremely unlikely” that Wober will join Gladbach permanently. Krone says Leeds are demanding £10.2m, more than Gladbach are willing to pay.

Wober is set to return to Leeds as Gladbach remain unlikely

Of the eight players who have gone out on loan, it is conceivable that Wober could have a future at Elland Road. He only joined Leeds in January 2023 and impressed in the second half of the season.

However, Wober angered fans when he left the club. He quit Leeds at the first opportunity when Daniel Farke’s old side came calling, despite captaining Leeds in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Barnsley.

He said the reason for his exit was because he wanted to cement his place in Austria’s squad ahead of Euro 2024, and he did. But his future is now completely up in the air, at least at club level.

Leeds are confident of securing the sale of Wober this summer

But even if there is a possibility of a return to Leeds, chances are he will be sold. Wober will not want to play in the second tier of English football and Leeds are keen to sell him in the coming months.

Previous reports suggested Leeds wanted £14.5m for him, but the latest claim says Leeds could do a £10.2m deal. Leeds are confident Wober’s form in 2023-24 will be enough to win a transfer.

But that looks unlikely at Gladbach going into next season. Chances are Wober will leave Leeds in the coming weeks and months, but to a completely different club somewhere in Europe.
