LibDems express concern over impact of police station closures in capital – EALING.NEWS – The Voice of Ealing 7 towns

At the weekend, Alastair Mitton, the LibDems’ potential parliamentary candidate for Ealing Central and Acton met with Ealing Safer Neighborhood Police and said the closure of local police stations in the capital was affecting performance and community safety.

Mr Mitton says he has been told by local police that because of the time it takes to travel to and from police stations, it can take up to an entire shift to arrest, process and document a single suspect.

With the closure of west London police stations, including Ealing and Chiswick, suspects are often transported to further afield Colindale and Heathrow police stations. For example, according to Ealing Police, it takes two and a half beds to make the return journey from Ealing to Colindale during rush hour.

LibDems say London’s Labor mayor Sadiq Khan has not done enough.

Mr Mitton said: “The Liberal Democrats think it is clear that there is a direct correlation between Labour’s police station closures and fewer police on our streets. The Liberal Democrats are committed to restoring proper community policing and putting the bobbies back in.”

He added: “The Liberal Democrats will always put your safety first.”
