Police issue update on ‘racial assault’ in Erdington High Street

West Midlands Police have confirmed that a 45-year-old man remains on bail after three people were allegedly racially assaulted on Erdington High Street. The victims were attacked on Friday afternoon (May 17) following an alleged parking dispute.

A 45-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains on bail. The force issued a renewed appeal to the public on May 27, urging anyone with information to get in touch.




They added that they are working through CCTV evidence as they continue to work to establish a cause. Police confirmed that three people in total – a man, a woman and a teenager – were allegedly hit during the disturbance.

Birmingham Police reached out to X, formerly Twitter, to confirm details of their investigation and provide an update. A spokesman for the force said: “We are appealing for information after a disturbance broke out on Erdington High St at around 2pm on Friday 17 May. Several people were involved in verbal abuse following an alleged parking dispute. We are working through CCTV in the area to establish the cause and who was involved.

“A 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault after a man, woman and teenager were punched during the altercation. He has since been released on bail while inquiries continue.

“We are also asking anyone who witnessed what happened and has not spoken to us to contact us via Live Chat on our website or by calling 101 quoting crime reference 20/450892/24.”
