Sheffield Wednesday have “reviewed their interest” in the prolific Premier League youngster

Sheffield Wednesday have ‘reviewed their interest’ in a Premier League youngster.

With Lee Gregory leaving the club and Ike Ugbo returning to Troyes, Sheffield Wednesday are targeting a major overhaul of their attack.

The Owls had the second fewest goals in the entire Championship last season, with Ugbo proving to be their only success after joining on loan in January.

Although the club are keen to sign the Canadian this summer, they are now exploring other options.

Sheffield Wednesday back in the running for Mike Biereth

While there will be some new names on the list, Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly considering a second attempt to sign Mike Biereth.

Writing on X, journalist Alex Miller said: “Understand they have reviewed their interest in #AFC forward Mika Biereth on Wednesday. The Danish U21s have done well on loan with Austrian double winners Sturm Graz – one of many keen clubs. It will be a competitive battle if Arsenal move him out.”

After impressing with Arsenal U23s, Biereth was sent out on loan to Motherwell for the first half of the campaign.

The striker scored six goals and provided five assists in just 14 games before the Gunners recalled him to the Emirates Stadium.

Wednesday were keen to bring Biereth to Yorkshire in January but ultimately missed out on him when he signed for Austrian club Sturm Graz, where he made seven contributions in 15 games.

After impressing with 24 goals in 37 games all season, Wednesday are one of a number of clubs keen to loan him out again this summer.

The Owls could have an unstoppable attacking duo next season

It is believed that Arsenal could be looking to extend the highly-rated forward’s contract and will want to send him somewhere that will help the youngster’s development and growth.

With James Beadle, Ike Ugbo and Ian Poveda all enjoying brilliant loan spells at Hillsborough this year, Danny Rohl’s impact on the squad could be enough to convince the Gunners.

It’s unclear whether Biereth’s arrival will depend on Ugbo’s situation, but the Owls would be in a much stronger position if they could land both.

The pair have scored a combined 26 goals this season and would really enable the club to push for that top half that Rohl is hoping for.
