The Mercy 4 Mankind – Cornwall Run attracted 85 participants Saturday morning, raising approximately $5,000 for the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation.

“It was a well organized race and we are very happy to have been able to organize it in Cornwall,” said Salman Rahman, President of Mercy 4 Mankind.

The Mercy 4 Mankind race was hosted in many other Canadian cities, he said, as organizers wrapped up the medal ceremony at the Lamoureux Park Lions.

Rahman said he was excited to expand the race after receiving a request from the local Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association.

“We felt this was an area in need, so we asked our team to help them install it,” he said.

The event offered distances of five kilometers, three kilometers and family one kilometer to accommodate serious and casual participants.

The proceeds, he said, will go toward one of the many pieces of medical equipment the hospital relies on to provide the best possible care to its patients.

Organizers also thanked Cornwall Police Service for helping to ensure a safe route to and from the bandshell.
