‘Shunned’ Huddersfield Town defender talks summer rebuild as Terriers prepare for League One

Huddersfield Town defender Brodie Spencer admits he is “disappointed and disappointed” following the club’s relegation to League One.

Town almost bounced back on Saturday on the final day of the campaign and sealed their fate with a 2-0 defeat at Ipswich Town.

The Terriers ended the season with 45 points on the board from 46 games played as they finished six points behind fourth-bottom Plymouth Argyle.

Town now face the prospect of a first League One campaign since 2012, in which the Terriers were promoted with a dramatic penalty shoot-out win over Sheffield United in the play-off final that ended an eight-game stay seasons at this level.

Terriers head coach Andre Breitenreiter said the club needed a “total reset” after relegation, with Town hovering above the drop zone for much of the campaign before falling into the bottom three twice in the last part of the season. .

Spencer has been one of Town’s few bright spots in a disappointing campaign, with the defender featuring in every game possible for the Terriers following his recall from Motherwell in January.

The 19-year-old was sent out on loan to the Scottish Premiership outfit for the first half of the season before making 21 appearances for Town in the latter part of the campaign, including 19 starts and two substitute appearances.

His efforts were ultimately in vain as the club could not avoid relegation. Spencer posted on X: “Disappointed and disappointed with the end result but thank you for all your support throughout the season. We’re rebuilding and going again next season.”
