Police return to Birmingham’s ‘worst’ parking road and find even more reckless drivers

A neighborhood police force has returned to Birmingham’s ‘worst’ parking road to issue a new wave of fines. Cars were photographed dumped in the middle of the road, on pavements and across pedestrian areas on the residential road.

A brass-necked driver even left his car dumped in the middle of Phillimore Road on a speed bump with no regard for how drivers or emergency service vehicles would maneuver around it.

Only last month we reported that the Washwood Heath team had gone to Phillimore Road in Saltley after “numerous complaints” from angry residents about the car park. On that patrol, 12 tickets were issued, while officers named the “best” worst parked vehicles.

But motorists clearly didn’t get the message, as officers returned to Phillimore Road this bank holiday weekend to find a number of cars parked badly or dangerously. Police entered the area as part of Operation Elevate, which uses high-visibility policing and covert strategic tactics.

Shocking footage shared by Washwood Heath Police on X, formerly Twitter, showed some drivers started driving horizontally on a pavement if they failed to get their car to safety. Four cars were photographed with their hoods or rears spilling onto the pavement.

The owners of the cars were issued tickets for obstructing the highway. Posting the images on X, formerly Twitter, on May 26, Washwood Heath Police said: “Phillimore Road. Tickets issued to registered owners of these vehicles for obstruction of public road.
