Thousands of people in Cornwall will get a full Openreach fiber broadband upgrade

Openreach has announced ambitious plans to upgrade broadband to a further eight locations in Cornwall. It means thousands more properties will be able to access full fiber broadband.

People living in Cockwells, Constantine, Dobwalls, Rilla Mill, St Mawes, St Tudy, Threewaters and the Isles of Scilly are next in line for improved broadband. It joins more than 155,000 homes and businesses in the Duchy that already have access to the UK’s most reliable broadband technology thanks to the work of Openreach, it said.

In the UK, the company has published updated plans to build full fiber broadband to a record 517 additional locations – covering a further 2.71 million homes and businesses. Martin Williams, Openreach regional director for the South West, said: “This is a huge infrastructure success story across the region. No company is building faster or further in Europe that we are aware of.”

“We will not stop either. We plan to build even more across the region, in more towns and cities and in our most rural communities. And our engineers, 3,100 of whom live in the region, are doing it at a rapid pace – despite the fact that this is an extremely complex engineering project.

“Our fiber checker has the latest information about our activity in your area, but only 41% of premises in Cornwall who can order a new superfast service have done so because upgrades are not automatic. Once Full Fiber is available where you live, you’ll need to place an order with a provider of your choice to connect and we’ll take care of the rest!” The story continues below.
