WANDERERS fans have again turned out in numbers both home and away this season.

The new figures show that the Whites boasted the third-highest average away attendance in League One, along with the second-highest average at home.

A total of 40,067 supporters have gone with Bolton this season, with an average of 1,742. Only two clubs managed to surpass this number – Portsmouth (1,778) and Derby County (2,220).

Bolton’s away following has increased by just over nine per cent in the 2022/23 season.

Nine clubs averaged more than 1,000 away fans, the list also including Reading (1,229), Blackpool (1,111), Oxford United (1,087), Charlton Athletic (1,057), Barnsley (1,033) and Carlisle United (1,018).

The lowest average away attendances in the division were Fleetwood (175), Burton Albion (309) and Cheltenham Town (368).

The biggest collection of Bolton fans at any game this season was 4,209 who watched the 1-0 defeat at Wigan Athletic in February. The smallest contingent was 742 who traveled to Fratton Park, Portsmouth, for a game in December which was also televised on Sky Sports.

Wanderers fans traveled an average of 143 miles per journey, which was three per cent higher than the division average. Carlisle United supporters had the longest journeys, clocking in at 223 miles on average, with Exeter City also clocking in at 211 miles. The shortest journey was made by Derby County at 108 miles.

The attendance at the Toughsheet Stadium was the largest ever in the Premier League, with an average of 21,080, including 19,817 home supporters. This was due to record sales of nearly 16,500 subscriptions.

The average away crowd at Bolton was 1,263, with Carlisle bringing the biggest number (4,407) for their 3-1 win in October.

The Cumbrians also boasted one of the division’s highest rates of traveling supporters compared to home gates, with 14.1% of their regulars also supporting them on the road. Northampton Town (14.2 per cent) had the highest total in League One, with Fleetwood (6.3 per cent) the lowest.
