Devastated family say ‘he’s here with us’ as dad and son laid to rest

A father and son who were killed in a devastating house fire have been laid to rest by their heartbroken family.

Four-year-old Ethan Mason and his father Barry, 45, both tragically died in the fire on Warrington Road in the early hours of April 14. Ethan died of his injuries in hospital at the hospital after Barry bravely ran back. in to save him’.




Ethan’s aunt Jessica posted a photo and tribute to Barry on her Facebook page after his death, saying he was the family’s “own superhero”. And after Ethan’s death, two days after being rushed to hospital with serious injuries, she said she “didn’t want his dad to be alone”.

Now the pair have been buried by their devastated loved ones. The funeral took place on May 23, which also happened to be “National Ethan Day”, reports the Liverpool Echo.

In response to a post on Echo’s Facebook page about the day, Ethan’s aunt Jessica said: “Oh, he’s definitely here with us.” In a separate post, she wrote: “Today will be the hardest day of our lives.

“Today we say goodbye to our little rainbow bubble Ethan and our hero Barry. Today we will do our best to stay strong for your mother and your precious brothers and sister.

“We’ll hold them tight for both of us. See you on the other side, my loves.”

The devastating blaze is believed to have started in the kitchen of the Warrington Road home before spreading to the roof. At the time, six people were in the family home, while the neighbors were evacuated.

Emergency services responded quickly to the incident and cordoned off the area overnight as the fire tore through the semi-detached house. Four-year-old Ethan was rushed to hospital and was in an induced coma after being rescued.

Police later confirmed the next day that Barry had died, with the family saying he had tried to save Ethan, who was trapped inside.

Following initial inquiries, Greater Manchester Police said they did not believe suspicious circumstances were involved in the fire. A fundraiser set up to raise money for the family has raised more than £60,000 since the fire.
