Special search powers in Shard End after man stabbed in Heath Way

Special police stop and search powers are out in force in the Shard End after a man was stabbed in the area last night, May 27. Section 60 powers will be in place until 1.53pm this afternoon.

It comes after a 27-year-old man was found outside the Heath Way shops with multiple stab wounds at around 7.15pm on Bank Holiday Monday. Police said the man was injured after a violent disturbance broke out in the area.




He was rushed to the hospital, where he remains in serious condition today. Section 60 stop and search powers were authorized in the Shard End following the violence.

The powers allow officers to stop and search people even if they are not suspicious of them. A spokesman for West Midlands Police told us: “An an inquiry has been launched following the disturbances in the Shard End last night.

“Officers were called to Heath Way at 7.15pm to reports of a disturbance. A man was found outside a store with multiple stab wounds. The 27-year-old was transported to the hospital where he remains in serious condition.

“Section 60 power has been authorized in the Shard End area following the disturbance and will remain in place until 1.53pm today. The extra powers allow us to stop and search people we suspect may be involved in violence without having to have reasonable grounds. .”

Detective Inspector Tom Lyons added: “We are urgently trying to establish what happened yesterday. We are carrying out CCTV inquiries in the area and speaking to a number of witnesses.
