The police descended on a block of flats last night.

Several police cars could be seen surrounding Wiltshire House in Lavender Street, Brighton, shortly after 7.30pm.

A spokesman for the force said it was an “isolated incident” and officers remain in the area this morning as inquiries continue.

They did not specify the nature of the incident.

“There is no threat to the wider community,” the spokesman said.

“Further details will be released in due course.”
