Parts of north London will benefit from the rollout of new broadband infrastructure.

Openreach, the UK’s largest wholesale broadband network, has published updated plans to build “ultra-fast, ultra-reliable” full broadband to a further 517 locations across the UK – covering an additional 2.7 million homes and businesses.

On the list of areas to benefit are Barnet, Colindale, Hendon, Cricklewood, Golders Green, Enfield, Palmers Green, Muswell Hill and Ponders End.

The work is part of Openreach’s £15 billion project to upgrade the UK’s broadband infrastructure – bringing gigabit-capable technology to 25 million homes and businesses by the end of 2026, including 6.2 million in areas rural.

Clive Selley, chief executive of Openreach, said: “This is a UK infrastructure success story. We are on track and on budget to bring this life-changing broadband technology to 25 million homes and businesses, and no company is building faster or further in Europe that we know of.

“We will not stop here either. We intend to build right in the UK, from cities to remote farms and island communities. Ultimately, we will reach up to 30 million premises by the end of the decade, if there is a favorable policy and regulatory environment.

“Over time, we have learned to deliver predictably, consistently and at a rapid pace – despite this being a highly complex national engineering project. This gives us the confidence to be even clearer about our building plans and we want to be as transparent as possible about where and when we build.

“Today we’re releasing more details than ever about the places we’re building now and the communities we’ll be upgrading next.”

Openreach also took the opportunity to refresh its online map and postcode checker to give the public a clearer, regularly updated picture of its plans and progress between now and 2026.
