Breakdown as Tipperary Inn customers share memories after closure announced

The closure of a popular Warwickshire pub which closed for good due to ‘economic challenges’ has sparked sadness among readers. Many have expressed their disappointment at the news that the Tipperary Inn will close in the hope that it will one day return.

One woman even said that she started dating her husband there. Others said they enjoyed going there, and now there are concerns about what might happen to the site, which is well-known to drivers in the area and famous further afield.

The Tipperary Inn on Balsall Common recently served Italian-inspired food, but was previously well-known for its British classics such as fish and chips – and it has a long history. It is said to have been where the famous war song ‘It’s A Long Long Way to Tipperary’ was written – although this is disputed by others.

One of the composers of the Tipperary song, Harry Williams, lived at the pub before the First World War. It was then reported that the soldiers adapted the song.

Pub managers Angelo and Vlad revealed news of the closure. They expressed their “heartfelt thanks” for the support they have received from customers over the years and said they are “truly grateful” for the memories they have shared with local people.

Many people expressed their devastation online, with one hoping it would be ‘put up for sale’ for ‘someone else to have a go at’ and added: ‘We can’t just allow pubs to continue to be converted to other uses because a single operator may” fail or the current climate is not right.”
