Willy Gnonto is already said to be considering leaving Leeds United after Sunday’s play-off final at Wembley ended in defeat.

Leeds have a busy summer ahead of them, but not in the way they would have hoped in the build-up to the play-off final.

They face a second season in the Championship for 24/25 and with that are departures that are virtually certain to come to an end.

Willy Gnonto ‘wants to leave’ Leeds United this summer

48 hours after the play-off final tear apart, Italian outlet Calciomercato.com say Willy Gnonto is already considering a move away from Leeds.

The 20-year-old has not been without interest since Leeds ditched the Championship in 2023, but the 49ers have been firm in their stance on the exit.

Will Leeds be promoted next season?

Gnonto is said to be keen on a return to Serie A if a move were to materialize this summer:

“With the season over, the class of 2003 is ready to turn the page to make assessments on its future. Gnonto would like to return to Italy to play in Serie A – where he has not made his debut until now, since his Inter youth days in Zurich – and return to the national team with Spalletti’s new cycle.

“After one season in the Championship he is thinking of a change and now that Leeds have missed out on promotion to the Premier League he is even more convinced.”

Gnonto joined Leeds for £3.8m from FC Zurich in 2022, beating off Italian competition for his signature, and pushed for a move in August before the club backed their position to keep him for this season .

Gnonto will likely leave Leeds, but only for a good fee

We showed last summer that we will not push the players we control into contracts.

Gnonto is one of those players and he won’t leave until we get the right exit fee, which you’d expect is very likely.

We managed to keep him for this season which was an achievement but I don’t see the club being totally against selling him this time.

Although, I think Gnonto won’t force it in the same way he did last term, which seemed to be run by an agent.

For the £20m+ you get for him, he helps rebuild the attack quite well.
