There are no more gates at Coolstore

The Coolstore Road gates have been dismantled and consigned to history, marking a major milestone in work to remove the dangerous and congested level crossing and build the new Croydon Transport Hub.

Crews removed the gates in the early hours of the morning in preparation for the girders for the new railway bridge to be lifted into place over Coolstore Road.

With Coolstore Road already closed to traffic, trains will continue to run until the works start 24/7 Friday 24 May to finish building the new rail bridge and Croydon station and new road links.

In early July, a new signalised junction will provide direct links between Wicklow Avenue, Croydon Road, Kent Avenue and Lacey Street. By spring, a new junction at Wicklow Avenue and Devon Street will provide another way to cross the railway line and Coolstore Road will continue onto Main Street.

Buses will replace trains on sections of the Lilydale line from Friday 24 May until early Julyso allow extra time and be aware of road and rail disruptions when planning your journey.

The new premium Croydon station will open to the community at the end of July, a year ahead of schedule, and features 2 entrances and courtyards, elevated platforms, modern facilities and lighting and CCTV.
