The event started on an emotional note as classical singer Alfie Boe took to the stage to perform a soulful rendition of You’ll Never Walk Along. The thousands in attendance joined in song to give the iconic manager a special send-off that will live long in the memory.

Before the event, Jurgen Klopp sent a special message to the fans. Speaking on Instagram, Klopp told fans: “Okay, now I’ve been trying to get myself in the right gear to say goodbye hopefully for the last time.

“I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a good event – again pretty exciting, but I think we’re over the worst of it now. So we can have fun and that’s the plan.

“So if you can see it, if you can watch it (not sure if anyone is showing it) have a great night too.

“So let’s go! So here we are, that’s it. Ready to party.”

Klopp ends the clip with a shot of himself in the mirror dressed in a navy blue suit with white trainers.
