New kiosks, seating and cladding for long-awaited £5.5m revamped shopping center

New seating, small business kiosks and new skins are coming to a prominent shopping center as bosses breathe new life into the site. The King’s Chase Shopping Center in Kingswood has been earmarked for a £5.5m refurbishment following a consultation by South Gloucestershire Council.

The plans, which form a wider regeneration project for Kingswood, have been revealed to buyers and work is now underway. Mall bosses say new cladding will be added to the entrance, new signage will be installed, the entrance stairs will be refurbished and the distinctive glass roof will be redecorated.

Other improvements include new seating, planters and plants, new mall lighting and new small business kiosks. The new work is scheduled to take place by August. Shoppers can find out more about the changes on a Kingswood Skills Hub window.

A spokesman for King’s Chase Shopping Center said: “Exciting developments will be taking place over the next few months at Kings Chase. We will work hard to bring improvements to the public areas of the Mall.”

The improvements follow the opening of bakery giant Greggs in April and the arrival of B&M in the coming weeks. According to a post by the mall on Facebook, the new retail store is scheduled to open on June 14 and “the team is working very hard to get the store up and running.”

B&M will be located on the site of the former Wilko branch. The signage on its window reads: ‘Your new B&M store is coming soon. We can’t wait to meet you!”

South Gloucestershire Council has bought the Kings Chase Shopping Center for £10m after years of talks about regenerating the site. South Gloucestershire Council has progressed with a new vision to regenerate the struggling high street, including the King’s Chase Shopping Centre.

The local area and its residents and visitors have spent years waiting for investment after funding was identified. In the latter part of 2023, ideas being considered as ways to improve Kingswood town center included a time-limited traffic ban, improved shop fronts and more greenery.

The council then launched a consultation website detailing its £25 million vision for key areas of the city and seeking feedback from residents and businesses in the area. Its masterplan for Kingswood was originally published in May 2022, outlining key improvement targets.
