Farke, 47, was twice promoted to the Prem as Norwich boss.

And his Leeds side became the first team in Championship history not to go up 90 points.

Club chairman Paraag Marathe wrote an open letter to fans yesterday in which he said: “Although we fell short of our ultimate goal of winning promotion this season, I want to thank you all for your continued support of the club and team throughout the campaign .

“Daniel and the team earned an impressive 90 points, which is a fantastic achievement and should not be overlooked.

“Congratulations to Ipswich Town and Leicester City for their near-historic points totals which earned them automatic promotion, and to Southampton for persevering in the Play-Offs.

“We go into this summer with the main aim of putting ourselves in the best possible position to compete for promotion next season.

“I can promise you that as we regroup, we will be consistent in our approach to operate with a deliberate strategy to field the most competitive team possible.

“Above all, your collective energy and passion at Elland Road and traveling with the team will be essential to our next campaign.

One consequence of Leeds’ failure to grow could be a devastating fire sale this summer.

The club owes nearly £190m in transfer fees after making an operating loss of £106m.

And SunSport understands Crysencio Summerville is a £40million target for Chelsea and Liverpool.

Archie Gray, Georginio Rutter, Ethan Ampadu and Willy Gnonto are also being groomed by Premier League sides.
