Firefighters rush to a gas leak at a South Bristol pub

Four fire and emergency crews from the gas and electricity boards attended the scene of a gas leak at a pub which caused a small area of ​​South Bristol to be cordoned off.

The incident happened at the Albert Lounge pub on the corner of West Street and Sheene Road in Bedminster shortly before 4pm today, Tuesday 28 May.

Firefighters from Bedminster and Temple attended the scene, along with emergency responders from Wales & West Utilities and National Grid, and that emergency response partially blocked the A38 West Street, with traffic backed up both northbound, as well as to the south, on both sides. of the junction.

The Pig is currently undergoing major refurbishment and as a precaution everyone inside has been evacuated, with firefighters cordoning off an area around the pub on either side of the corner.

Joe, the owner of Albert, said: “The Pig is closed at the moment as we have a major refurbishment and there was a small gas leak so we called for help. It looked a bit more dramatic than it was, we had four fire engines as well as the gas panel and the national grid. But no one was hurt and it was just a minor spill.”

Gas engineers declared the area safe and the pavement cordon was lifted and the road was fully reopened just before 4.30pm.
