Coventry MotoFest 2024 road closures, displays, motorsport times and music

Motofest Coventry returns this weekend on June 1 and 2 to bring a weekend – and there will be plenty for the whole family to enjoy. Motofest celebrates the city’s motoring and transport heritage and marks its tenth anniversary this year with everything from classic cars to motorcycles, motorsport and modified cars for fans to enjoy.

The popular event showcases the past, present and future of the automotive industry, along with new technologies and innovations. Fans can expect motorsports, live music, global street food and more for an action-packed weekend, all for free.

We’ve compiled a guide to everything you need to know about Motofest 2024. In it, we’ll take you through the displays, motorsports, closed roads, music and much, much more.

What exhibitions will be at the event?

There will be all kinds of displays where you might even get a chance to meet the people who helped design or build your car or motorcycle. The event accepts engines of all shapes and sizes on four and two wheels, old or new. There will be four display categories: Modified/Performance Cars, Classic Cars and Motorcycles.

If your car fits into classic car clubs, modified car clubs, motorcycle clubs and commercial and farm vehicle clubs, then you can show your car. But you don’t have to be in a club to display your vehicle – if you want to show off your classic car or motorbike in the heart of Coventry, you can!

For anyone who wants to participate, they must:

• Book your slot here via the Motofest website – all remaining places will be available on a first come, first served basis.
• There is a £5 fee to display in this area per vehicle, you will be able to pay this through the booking portal
• Drip trays/drip mats are mandatory and available on the day.

The classic cars will be on Little Park Street, Earl Street and Jordan Well. The vintage sports car club will be located in University Square. The modern modified and performance car clubs will be on Cox Street, while the motorcycle clubs and individual shows will be at Millenium Place and Hales Street.

What live motorsport events are taking place?

Ciricut’s unique Ring Road Sprint will return with an action-packed weekend of bikes and cars as they ‘roar’ under the bridge deck. Fans should head to the viewing areas to get in on the action – weekend schedules have yet to be released, although a few times are known below.

Drift Arena will welcome Crewsade back to Motorfest and White Street Car Park. Fans will be able to see the car mayhem with Crewsade and One Wheel Wavey. Fans should head to Crewsade via the tube behind Pool Meadow station. It will be held from 10am to 5pm on June 1st and 2nd.

For those looking to get their heart racing, check out the AutoTest Championship as you can see precision driving around the poles on the Coventry Ring Road, all against the clock, where you can watch the action from under the Gosford Road Ring Road. This will take place from 10:00 to 15:00 on both days.

New for this year will be the historic karting arena, which will be hosted by the British Historic Karting Club. Based in the Gosford Road car park below the ring road, it will offer fans the chance to see first-hand dynamic displays of the grassroots motorsport that has launched the careers of many legendary drivers over the years.

What is the Innovation Zone?

The Innovation Zone on Greyfriars Green has expanded for 2024 and is dedicated to celebrating the future of transport. You can visit MotoFest sponsor E.On’s stand to learn about sustainable motorsport with famous Extreme E and FIA World RX drivers Kevin Hansen and Molly Taylor, where you can test your skills on the Veloce racing simulators.

In the Innovation Arena, trial future transport solutions with WMG, TfWM, Coventry University and more. Pave UK brings interactive robot activities and games to introduce self-driving technology (look up to the skies for displays of the latest drone technology over the weekend).

What can children get involved in at Motofest?

All live and static displays are child-safe and there will also be a range of free activities chosen specifically to engage younger visitors.

• Mini Rovers – try driving around a circuit specially created for them in cars to match their size on Greyfriars Green.
• Walks to fairs – at Warwick Road near The Wave.
• Face painting – on Greyfriars Green.
• Parks and play areas – there’s plenty in the city for you to relax and the kids can play from the newest play area at Methodist Central Hall, Naul’s Mill Underpark or Stanley Gardens at Coventry University.

What is Coventry Concours 2024?

The Coventry Concours is the MotoFest version of a Concours d’Elegance competition. Each Coventry Competition will have a theme but will maintain a Coventry connection throughout entries each year. They are looking for the best examples of vehicles with a Coventry connection.

The Coventry Pageant will be held at Coventry Cathedral Ruins, with Anthony Evans Insurance supporting the event. The company has a real interest in classic cars and motorcycles as they offer all types of motor policies in the UK.

Will there be live music?

Around Motofest there will be several stages where you can enjoy local artists and cover bands playing the classics. The four stages include: BBC Introducing, Jubilee Arena, CV Folk and HMV Empire Stage.

What roads will be closed?

These are the road closures that will be in effect from May 31 to June 2:

• Ring road clockwise J4 – 7 (Main junction: London Road to Butts Road/Croft Road)

• Counter-clockwise ring road J7 – 4 (Main junction: Butts Road/Croft Road to London Road)

• Ring road J4 (London Road/Short Street) Ring road access to J5 (Mile Lane/Little Park Street),

• Ring road J5 (Mile Lane/Little Park Street) – all in/out roads from the ring road.

• Ring road J6 (Friargate/Warwick Road/Manor House Drive)

• Ring road J7 (Croft Road/Butts Road) – Ring Road Access to J6 (Friargate/Warwick Road/Manor House Drive)

• Warwick Roadboth directions from the junction of Eaton Road/Central 6 to the junction of New Union Street and Greyfriars Lane (The Wave)

• Manor Road – there is no access to the ring road.

• Hales Street in front of the old fire station (Millennium Place)

How to get around Motofest
