Run For Cornwall takes off in 2024

The first Run For Cornwall, hosted by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Cornwall in partnership with Mercy 4 Mankind, took place on Saturday, May 25 at Lamoureux Park. The race raised funds for the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation and brought citizens together for a common goal – to spread love and give back.

“This is an event by the community, for the community, for our hospital,” said Amy Gillespie on behalf of CCHF, “I think it’s so important to encourage people and youth in our community to get involved and do the work. that they can achieve locally.” During the opening ceremony, Amy also thanked the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Cornwall for donating the proceeds from Run For Cornwall 2024 to CCHA.

Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association played an important role in the success of the event. Youth of all ages volunteered behind the scenes and during the event running water stations, speaking during the opening ceremony and guiding 64 registered runners in the 1k, 3k and 5k races.

“As a Muslim community, we want to share with society whatever goodness we have, whatever wealth we have. It’s part of our faith,” explained Ishaque Fonesca (pictured below, far right), missionary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Cornwall, “Even apart from the funds we’re raising, we hope it brings the community together and breaks down some of the barriers that I’m there.”

Salman Rehan, Director of Charity Runs for Mercy 4 Mankind, (pictured above, second from left) was delighted to be present at the first run in Cornwall. “We are very excited to host this race and honored to have Councilor Fred (Ngoundjo) as our Honorary Chairman. Fred is pictured second from the right. Thanks to all the runners who participated,” said Rehan.
