LFC marks 39 years since the Heysel Stadium disaster

The disaster occurred ahead of the European Cup final between Liverpool and Juventus on 29 May 1985, when events in Block Z of the stadium tragically killed 39 people and left hundreds more injured.

As a mark of respect for those who have died, floral tributes will be placed next to the Heysel memorial plaque in the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand at Anfield. Flags at all club sites will be flown at full mast throughout the day.

Billy Hogan, CEO of Liverpool FC, said: “We come together today as a club to pay tribute to the 39 people who lost their lives at Heysel and to remember all those affected by this tragedy.

“Our thoughts are with the families and all those affected on this emotional day which will forever be an important part of the club’s history.”
