Nuneaton’s Bermuda Bridge public opening could be ‘hit by the weather’ warning

Council chiefs have warned that Bermuda’s official bridge open to the public could be “beaten by the weather”. After months and months of delays, the new-look bridge was due to open to the public this Friday (May 31).

Residents of the Bermuda village have had access to the bridge for some time, but Warwickshire County Council said the nearly three-year saga was due to end with traffic finally able to use the bridge.

CoventryLive asked the county council if the opening date would still be Friday. In a statement, a spokesman said it was dependent on the weather.

This is due to the final resurfacing work that needs to be completed. A spokesman for Warwickshire County Council said: “Work on the Bermuda Bridge is scheduled to be completed this week and the scheme has been opened to the public until Friday 31 May 2024. However, the weather forecast is currently poor and , therefore jeopardizing the planned opening of the bridge to all traffic.”

“We are monitoring the weather forecast and remain optimistic that the surface can be completed during the week, otherwise we will continue to provide access to local residents ahead of the full opening of the scheme when the work is complete.”
