A banned driver has been jailed – after DRIVING since his first court order.

Kieron Pemberton, 29, had his license suspended for 14 months for failing to provide a breath sample.

But minutes after he left court on Monday, a police officer who had been present at the hearing saw Pemberton get into his car and start to drive away.

Pemberton, from Wigan, Greater Manc., was detained and arrested after the incident and told to appear before magistrates again on Tuesday, where he was.
sentenced to 12 weeks in prison.

Mike Ardern, prosecuting, told Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court: “As he left the court the officer was leaving the nearby supermarket and saw him walking and holding the car key.

— Mr. Pemberton opened the driver’s door and drove.

“The officer pulled up in front of him, got out and showed him that he had just been disqualified and then arrested him.”

Andrew Stock, defending, explained how Pemberton, who pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, got behind the wheel to drive the car back to his address where it would be sold.
