Bakery with one of Manchester’s most sought after croissants to open new cafe

A popular Manchester bakery has announced big plans to open a second location. Companio Bakery has become a much-loved addition to Manchester’s thriving artisan bakery scene and has now confirmed that it will be opening a larger cafe space this summer.

Updating their followers on social media, the Radium Street bakery, which sells a range of breads, viennoises and sweet cakes, said they were “thrilled” to be expanding into the Northern Quarter. They explained that while the first location will remain open, the new location will be larger and have an indoor seating area.

The tiny bakery first opened in 2019 and has grown from a team of 2 to 11 in just a few years. It has become very popular, especially for its almond croissants that it bakes in small batches.

In a video post shared on Instagram, the owners wrote: “Hello everyone. Say goodbye to the drums, please. We are delighted to announce that Companio is expanding to a new, larger cafe in the Northern Quarter this summer.

“From the little bakery in Ancoats set up in 2019, we’ve grown from a team of 2 to a team of 11 and we’re only going up from there.

“Our commitment to artisanal baking and the unwavering support of our loyal customers have led us to this exciting milestone. We are deeply grateful for your patronage and look forward to continuing to serve you with the best breads and pastries in an even bigger and better space. , with seats inside.

“Join us in celebrating this new chapter and stay tuned for more details on our opening. We can’t wait to welcome you. All the best from Neil, Baneta and the Companio team.”

Companio’s croissants have become some of Manchester’s most coveted pastries. Talking to Manchester Evening News previously, bakery manager Neil Large revealed they only make about 15 to 25 almond croissants on a weekday and 60 on the weekend. In the original space, those queuing for pastries can watch the bakers prepare their daily flavors, while the pastries are made fresh every day at a location not too far from the store.

While the specific location of the new Northern Quarter site has yet to be revealed, followers of the bakery were quick to congratulate the bakers on the expansion. One person on Instagram responded: “Amazing news! I’m looking forward to seeing the vegan options.”

Another added: “Congratulations, an exciting new chapter for a talented and motivated team.”

And a third wrote: ‘Well done guys. It has been so lovely to watch you grow and be a part of your delicious pastry appreciation club. I can’t wait to visit the new location.”
