Reporter tips Derby County, Portsmouth to target Harrison Burrows

Derby County, Portsmouth, Coventry City and Watford have been tipped by reporter Alan Swann to be interested in Peterborough United star Harrison Burrows.

Derby County and Portsmouth will join Coventry City and Watford in the Championship, while Peterborough United’s failure to make the play-offs means they will remain in League One.

Posh are no strangers to interest in their star men and after falling short of promotion it is expected that several of Darren Ferguson’s key players will be subject to interest from clubs in the higher leagues.

Now, said Peterborough Telegraph reporter Alan Swann ‘wait’ interest in academy graduate and Harrison Burrows from a championship quartet.

Derby County, Portsmouth, Coventry City and Watford have been tipped to show an interest in Burrows.

The 22-year-old has been one of League One’s standout players in the 2023/24 campaign, producing an outstanding goal-scoring output. Burrows managed 12 goals and 18 assists in 58 games for the Posh, taking on the captain’s armband in January.

He now has a year left on his contract at London Road, so this summer could be the ideal time for a sale.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Ready for the championship

Burrows has played Championship football before, managing three goals and seven assists in 37 games during Peterborough United’s previous stay in the second tier.

With Derby County, Portsmouth, Coventry City and Watford all set to be among those keen this summer, it would be no surprise if the 22-year-old took a deserved step back to that level.

Few left backs in world football can match his performance in terms of goals and decisive assists. The key role he plays in attack has been vital to Posh’s success and his role as captain demonstrates leadership and maturity beyond his years.

He is also comfortable further back as a full-back and has played in midfield before. It seems to have equipped him well for a creative defender role.

Of course, it remains to be seen if Burrows actually attracts interest from Derby County, Portsmouth, Coventry City for Watford.

If they do, though, it could be the Sky Blues who hold the advantage.

After the January transfer window saw Coventry sign Ephron Mason-Clark from Posh, it emerged the club are admirers of other Peterborough United stars, one of whom has asked for an option. As such, they could have dibs on another key player of theirs.

Burrows certainly fits that mold, giving them a potential edge in a chase, should there be one. Time will tell exactly what happens to his situation, with more vacation interest inevitable after such a strong year.
