The A38 diversion route after a boat towing vehicle crashes in the central reservation

Motorists are being warned to plan their journeys ahead of time after a crash on the A38 in Cornwall today (Wednesday 29 May). National Highways is advising motorists traveling east between Menheniot and Trerulefoot to allow extra time.

At around 11.25am, a vehicle towing a boat crashed into the central reservation. The accident resulted in a large car fire, several emergency services went to the scene.




The A38 is fully closed between the B3252 near Lower Clicker and the A374 Trerulefoot. Motorists are being told to expect delays, but it is currently unknown how long the road will remain closed.

As a result of the accident, a diversion route was created. National Highways warns motorists: “Diversion routes Road users traveling east are being diverted to local routes.”

Road users traveling west are advised to follow the Solid Diamond detour symbol on road signs.

  • Follow the A374 to the A387.
  • Head west on the A387 to the B3252 near Widegates.
  • Follow the B3252 to Horningtops to join the A38.

If the current closure impacts your planned route, please allow additional travel time. Plan ahead, you may want to reroute or even delay your trip.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police were called at around 11.25am on Wednesday 29 May to reports of a road traffic collision on the A38 near Menheniot.
