Leeds fans hijack West Ham’s player of the year vote and the result is hilarious

Leeds United fans have hijacked a huge player of the year vote from West Ham and the result is absolutely hilarious.

There is no real love lost between West Ham and Leeds United.

But sometimes you just have to hold your hands up when a rival “likes you a kipper” so to speak.

It’s that time of year when the vote takes place to decide who will be crowned West Ham’s Hammer of the Year.

Leeds’ player of the year vote may have to wait longer as the Elland Road side need to win the Championship play-off to join West Ham back in the Premier League.

Phillips took a scenic route from Leeds to West Ham

Just as West Ham had to watch midfield hero Declan Rice move on to pastures new, so did Leeds United when it came to Kalvin Phillips.

Little did the two clubs know that Phillips would end up being one of Rice’s “replacements” at West Ham. In theory at least.

In January, the Hammers signed the former Leeds hero on loan from Man City for the rest of the season.

It had been a long time in preparation. Departed West Ham boss David Moyes tracked Phillips for two years dating back to his time at Leeds.

In the end, Moyes’ insistence on what was an absolute disaster of a signing was one of the two big reasons why David Sullivan decided to let him go.

West Ham are just thankful they only accepted a loan deal with no obligation to buy.

Leeds fans hijack West Ham player of the year vote

Jarrod Bowen is the hot favorite to be named Hammer of the Year this season.

But a poll of West Ham fans didn’t go as expected.

Leeds fans have hijacked a player of the year vote from West Ham and the result is hilarious.

A fan account on X called West Ham Xtra posted a Hammer of the Year poll at the weekend.

But he soon got far more votes than they had struggled for.

In the end, around 13,000 votes were cast. And it was clearly a Leeds hijack as most were for Phillips.

The hilarious result is Phillips’ most important loan

With 60 per cent of the vote to Bowen’s 35 per cent, Phillips recorded what is probably the biggest achievement of his dismal six-month loan spell.

“Almost 13,000 votes – Leeds got us here guys,” West Ham Xtra said alongside a screenshot of the poll result.

“Congratulations Kalvin Phillips.”

Phillips has angered West Ham fans once again with his latest misstep following the recent 5-2 thrashing of Crystal Palace.

I called the Hammers to calls Man City and terminates Phillips’ loan when he was seen laughing and joking on the pitch with Palace’s Eberechi Eze after the match without a care in the world.

After laughing and joking with Eze as some of his dazed team-mates approached the West Ham fans to apologise, Phillips then liked a video posted by Eze of him destroying the Hammers.

Phillips was West Ham’s worst signing since Roberto.

But it’s hard not to laugh at what is a brilliant bit of trolling from Leeds.

Phillips has actually been linked with a return to his boyhood club in the summer if he can get promoted.

Although, if Phillips fails to perform, he may find the Championship to be the highest level he can play at.
