M1 ‘racist abuse’ hunt after man hurled insults at group at service station

Officers have released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with reported racist abuse.

It was reported that at around 8pm on April 27, at Woodall Northbound Autoway Services on the M1, a group of people were racially abused by a man. South Yorkshire Police say officers are keen to identify the man in the images released as he may be able to help with enquiries.




The man was described as white, of large build, around 6ft, with close-cropped hair. He is believed to have been traveling to the Sunderland area at the time.

Anyone with information has been asked to pass it on to police online here or by calling 101 and quoting incident number 885 of April 27. You can also send information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Officers in Rotherham have released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in relation to a reported incident of racist abuse.

“It is reported that on April 27 at around 8pm at Woodall Northbound Autoway Services on the M1, a group of people received racist verbal abuse from a man. Inquiries are ongoing but officers are keen to identify the man in the footage as they may be able to. to help with questions.

“The man is described as white, of large build, around 6ft tall, with short, shaved hair. It is believed he may have been traveling to the Sunderland area at the time. Do you recognize him?”
