Mighty Hoopla issue statement after heavy rain leaves Brockwell Park with nothing but mud

Organizers Mighty Hoopla have issued a statement about the rain ahead of this weekend’s festival (Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2). The team say they are preparing the site to ensure mud doesn’t spoil the weekend, including laying ground cover in key areas.

Heavy rain this week, combined with another festival in Brockwell Park on Monday, turned the park into a complete mud pit ahead of the festival.

Festival-goers have already been urged to wear mana sandals if they plan to attend, but the Might Hoopla team have released a new statement about the mud issue on their social media.

As part of this, festival organizers said they had devised a “robust plan”, which would see Lambeth Council provide 20,000 square meters of ground cover to protect the park and those attending, attending and working at the event.

It wasn’t just Mighty Hoopla that was affected, another children’s festival – Brockwell Bounce – also had to be canceled today (Wednesday, May 29) because of the mud, Lambeth Council said.

Mighty Hoopla organizers say they are doing everything they can to make sure their festival doesn’t end up like the Brockwell Bounce.

Full statement from Mighty Hoopla

The Mighty Hoopla statement said: “Following heavy rain during another festival on Monday, the site at Brockwell Park has become muddy and wet. It took us some time to assess with our team, our suppliers and our colleagues at Lambeth Council, and now they have a solid plan that protects not only the park, but everyone who attends, performs and works at Mighty Hoopla 2024.
