‘They present Manchester’: Councilor slams ‘disgraceful scenes’ as children ‘run riot’ outside Printworks

A councilor criticized the “scenes of shame” that broke out as groups of teenagers began stripping outside Printworks on Monday night (May 27).

A huge police response was called to the entertainment complex after a fight broke out involving youths, with large groups seen being separated and escorted away from the area.

The “large-scale fight” broke out outside the Cargo club on Withy Grove at around 8.50pm. At the time, an under-16 event called the “Summer Pre Party” was being held at the nearby Cargo club.

Councilor Pat Karney, the city centre’s spokesman, has since condemned the “riots” in the incident, saying: “It’s showing Manchester”.

He told the MEN: “We have asked the council’s chief executive to carry out an inquiry into what happened and whether this type of event should be allowed in the future.

“The images of rioting children and the need for Greater Manchester Police to bring order to Shudehill were shocking. We cannot turn a blind eye to this behavior.”
