The former Bristol Rovers striker signs for Yeovil Town following his release after 13 years at the club

Harvey Greenslade has signed for newly promoted National League side Yeovil Town on a two-year deal after being released from Bristol Rovers.

The 20-year-old forward has been with Rovers since the age of seven and made a senior appearance for the Gas in the 2022/23 season, with most of his football in recent campaigns coming on loan.

Greenslade had spells in the National League South at Chippenham Town and Truro City before spending the final three months of last season on loan in the National League at Oxford City, where he scored three league goals for the bottom fifth-tier club .

However, the young forward impressed despite Oxford City’s relegation with other National League clubs understood to have inquired about the 20-year-old’s situation at Rovers, where he had been training with Matt Taylor’s side during the week alongside of the loan period.

Although Taylor has not had the opportunity to use Greenslade in a competitive match environment at Rovers, the Gas manager was full of praise for the young forward in his post-season interview, telling the club’s media: “Harvey has done fantastically well in his time. Last loan at Oxford City, despite their relegation, they’ve done really well personally, I’m sure he (Ryan Jones) and Harvey will have an interesting time over the next six weeks and pre-season in terms of where will be. They’ll be back in the Football League or it’ll be at National League level, but they’re both talented guys.”

By joining Yeovil, the Bristol-born striker will be able to stay in the South West while playing for a football club considered a juggernaut at that level, despite being promoted there. Mark Cooper’s side won the National League South title last season, having been relegated the previous season.

The Glovers are undoubtedly an ambitious club looking to climb back to their previous heights of being in the Championship as recently as 2014 and will give Greenslade the opportunity to continue competing in the fifth tier with the aim of returning to the Premier League football as soon as possible.
