Sheffield Wednesday touch down on Karamoko Dembele

Sheffield Wednesday have made contact with Stade Brestois over a possible deal for Karamoko Dembele, The Star have reported.

Sheffield Wednesday will be playing Championship football again next season after successfully climbing out of the relegation zone and securing their second-tier status.

Now that Danny Rohl’s future has been secured, the Owls will be hopeful of a start in the 2024/25 campaign.

New signings will be key in their bid to do so and several players have already been linked with a move to Hillsborough. Now, other rumors have surfaced about a potential target.

According to a report from The Star, Sheffield Wednesday have made contact over a potential deal for 21-year-old starlet Karamoko Dembele, who will return to Stade Brestois after a season on loan at Blackpool.

Things are very much in ‘first steps’ but the Owls have been in touch over a possible loan deal, although it remains to be seen whether they will let him leave again after his impressive tenure in League One.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

A step up awaits you

While time will tell exactly what the future holds for Dembele, it seems inevitable that he will step up to the competition ahead of next season following his success with Blackpool.

The former Celtic talent scored nine goals and provided 14 assists in 47 games for Blackpool. Starts were not particularly regular in the early stages of the season, but his performances soon saw him break into Neil Critchley’s squad.

After spending much of his career on the sidelines, Dembele has cemented his place in the team as an attacking midfielder, making the move into the center with great success.

As such, they should face tougher competition next season. A move to Sheffield Wednesday would allow him to do that, but his future ultimately rests in the hands of Stade Brestois.

More fruitful loans

After the success of the January loan signings, it’s no surprise that Sheffield Wednesday are looking to repeat the trick with moves for the likes of Dembele this summer.

Ike Ugbo’s goals after his arrival from ESTAC Troyes were key in the survival bid. Ian Poveda also proved a bright spark in attack, while James Beadle impressed in goal.

Such success for loan players under a top boss like Rohl should have clubs looking to send their top youngsters to Hillsborough for first team minutes.

It could prove to be a fruitful market for Wednesday once again this summer, but it remains to be seen whether they can land Dembele as he awaits a decision on his next step.
