Sky ‘shuts down’ channels for thousands of TV customers and says ‘you can cancel’

Sky is “shutting down” some channels for thousands of TV customers, it has warned. The telecoms provider and TV company, which has thousands of subscribers up and down the country, is shutting down channels for good this week, in a major blow to some.

Sky explained on its website: “We’re changing the way we deliver our TV services. This means that if you have an SD card you will need to upgrade to continue watching Sky channels. In May, you will lose access to Sky Sports. channels, Sky Cinema channels and the MUTV channel.




“Without upgrading, any subscriptions you have to these channels will be cancelled.” Sky added: ‘Would you like to cancel your subscriptions? You can do this without early termination fees. Or you can continue watching without the channels above.

“From June you will start losing access to all Sky channels.” To headeck if Sky box is affected, sselect channel 101 on the remote control. If you’re watching BBC One HD, you’re not affected. If you’re watching BBC One in SD, you are and will need to upgrade to your Sky Box.

Press Services on your Sky remote, press 4 then 5 and then check the version number. Affected boxes are Digiboxes 4F01 to 4F08 (Amstrad), 4E01 to 4E05 (Grundig) and 9F01 to 9F08 and 9F0A (Pace), as well as 0F01 to 0F05 (Panasonic) and 4E06 to 4E08 (Thomson)

Sky+ boxes 4F2001 to 4F2006 (Amstrad), 4F2101 to 4F2118 and 9F2101 to 9F2137 (Amstrad or Pace), 9F2001 to 9F2024, PVR2, 9F2201 to 9F2201 and 9F2923 are also affected (9F2923). . 4E2101 to 4E2141 (Thomson). Sky TV customers can upgrade to Sky Q at no extra cost, the company says.
