Jurgen Klopp said he would be there for a bus parade if Liverpool had handed him a Premier League title in retrospect.

The legendary manager bid farewell to Reds fans in an event at the M&S Bank Arena on Tuesday night. The 56-year-old took part in a Q&A hosted by comedian John Bishop and LFCTV’s Peter McDowall as he reflected on his memorable nine-year reign in charge at Anfield.

Klopp laughed as he outlined a list of five topics he was advised not to talk about, which included TNT Sports, referees, VAR, Manchester City and anything to do with finances. However, Bishop said he was unaware of the banned topics and stepped in to ask about the team’s Premier League rivals on the M62.

Klopp guided Liverpool to the Premier League title in 2020 as the team finished behind Pep Guardiola’s City in two closely-fought title races in 2018/19 and 2021/22, seasons in which the Reds missed out on the Championship with a single point. innings of 97 and 92.

However, City remain under investigation as the club has been hit with 115 charges for alleged breaches of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

Bishop asked the outgoing manager about a hypothetical outcome of the investigation, saying: “You leave this club having won the Premier League once. There could be a court decision that means you’ve won the Premier League three times.”

Klopp received a huge ovation from the crowd as he said he would be there for any celebration if Liverpool had retrospectively awarded him a Premier League trophy. He said: “If you organize a bus parade, I go in. However long it takes, I don’t care.”

Bishop joked that Steve Rotheram was in the crowd so the metro mayor could arrange for road closures for any future parades. He added: “The problem with football is that there are so many layers to it and some of them are out of your control.”

However, Klopp went on to make it clear that he is happy with what the Reds have achieved during his tenure, saying: “I’m still a happy man. I came here tonight and obviously I would change a few things, but not for me. Personally, I come here tonight and say goodbye, would you be in a different mood if we had won the league three times instead of just once?

“I know it’s all about success, but the relationship we’ve built is independent of trophies. It’s based on trust, togetherness and the experiences we’ve had together.

“Trophies are important. If we didn’t win anything, we would have had the farewell party after a year and a half and it’s not the same obviously. I learned it so early in my life as a manager. I wasn’t promoted by a point and then not being promoted (at Mainz) by a goal teaches you sometimes.

“You can try absolutely everything and still get nothing for it. But if you don’t try, then you certainly don’t get anything. So I kept trying, and every now and then things came together and clicked and I won.”
