Alley note leads to Bradford’s murder-suicide discovery: Police

“We’re not looking for any suspects, there’s no danger to the public, but our bureau of criminal investigations (is) looking into it,” says the deputy chief.

Editor’s Note: The following story contains information about a murder-suicide that some readers may find disturbing.

South Simcoe police are not looking for suspects, but the case involving the discovery of two bodies inside a Bradford home on May 17 is technically still open.

In an update to the Bradford West Gwillimbury/Innisfil Police Board on May 29, South Simcoe Deputy Chief Sheryl Sutton provided some additional details about the incident, which occurred on Depeuter Crescent in the north end of the city.

She says a neighbor found a note in the driveway of the residence that said one of the occupants had killed his wife. This prompted police to go to the home for a well-being check at around 6.15pm that day.

Officers arrived at the residence and found the front door open and two people dead inside.

“We’re not looking for any suspects, there’s no danger to the public, but our bureau of criminal investigations (is) looking into it,” Sutton said. “It was basically a murder-suicide. He was tied to the house. It still requires a full investigation.”

In a recent press release, police also confirmed that the deaths were related to intimate partner violence.

“In the days before the police arrived, the perpetrator, a man in his 60s, killed his wife, who was in her 50s, and then committed suicide,” the statement said, adding that it was “actively investigating the motives who motivated this. tragic incident.”

The couple had lived in Bradford for “several decades,” police said, noting there had been no previous police calls to the residence.

Police urge victims of intimate partner violence to seek support by contacting law enforcement or women’s shelters.
