A cliffside cottage which featured in BBC drama Poldark is set to go under the hammer for less than £400,000.

The beautiful one bedroom bungalow is set in the cliffs next to the famous Minack Theater and overlooks Porthcurno Beach in Cornwall.

Auctioneers say the detached property in Penzance has the potential to be turned into a “Grand-Designs-style project” and already has planning permission to be demolished.

Porthscylla was featured in Poldark, once known for its chilling scenes. It will appear at auction for a guide price of £395,000.

Katie, Senior Auctioneer at Clive Emson Auctioneers, said: “Something like this offered to the auction market in such a beautiful and unspoilt location is an absolute rarity indeed and anyone visiting Porthcurno even on a rainy day you’d be crazy not to fall in love with her’.

The property, set in the cliffs next to the famous Minack open-air theatre, is in the same family and has ‘enjoyed the fullness of a century’.

It stands on approximately 0.78 hectares (1.94 acres) of predominantly rocky terrain, with a flat area located towards the summit.

The quaint cottage contains an entrance/utility area, a toilet, kitchen, shower room with double basin, a double bedroom and a lounge/diner.

According to Clive Emson Auctioneers, the property now requires a course of updating throughout, while benefiting from in-principle permission to demolish and replace, offering the potential for “Grand Design-style opportunities to be explored” – subject to all necessary consents being obtained .

Cornwall Council has granted permission in principle for the cottage-style bungalow to be demolished and replaced.
