Two people have been charged with nearly 30 shoplifting offences

WEST MIDLANDS Police have charged two people with almost 30 shoplifting offenses in Coventry.

Officers acted on information yesterday (May 28) and arrested a 44-year-old woman in connection with a series of shoplifting incidents between last autumn and early this month.

Karen George, from Coventry, has been charged with 11 counts of theft, one count of attempted theft and a public order offence, she was remanded in custody to appear at Coventry Magistrates Court today.

It comes after police arrested a 28-year-old man on Monday (May 27) in connection with a series of unrelated shoplifting offences.

Michael Mewis, from Coventry, was charged with 16 counts of shoplifting between March and May this year, he appeared in court yesterday.

West Midlands Police said they routinely carry out high-visibility patrols in retail areas, along with other activities, to track down suspects.
